A police chase in East Los Angeles late on Tuesday, February 20 could easily have ended in disaster, as the driver of a stolen pickup truck lead police into a train tunnel moments before a train passed in the opposite direction. Video footage shows a train going into the Metro tunnel just before the truck entered, and another train exiting the tunnel on the opposite tracks moments later. According to reports, the pickup truck got stuck on the tracks after driving into the underground light railway tunnel. Police confirmed that a male suspect was arrested and taken into custody after 11 pm on Tuesday night, while a female suspect remains at large.
A Stolen Pickup Truck, a Police Chase and a Train Track
Having first come to the attention of the police due to driving a stolen truck, the pickup driver quickly made matters worse for himself as he sped away from a Huntington Park police vehicle. Before getting to the train tunnel where the chase came to a luckily uneventful end, the driver had sped through an intersection, collided with a taxi, mounted the sidewalk, and continued evading the police. After the driver entered, and eventually became stuck, in the tunnel, the Metro Gold Line was closed during the police investigation, while a perimeter was set up to search for the escaping female suspect.
While any kind of road accident can be a scary experience, a situation involving both a truck and, potentially, several trains must be particularly terrifying.
