Today, we want to discuss a recent crash that took the lives of four people.
What happened in this case
For our story today, we are going to take you to nearby Lancaster where a tragic incident took four people’s lives.
Police say the incident happened on August 14 just afternoon in the area of Avenue H and 30th Street West. They say that a car was driving westbound and ran a red light at the intersection when it slammed into another vehicle traveling northbound. All three people in the northbound vehicle were killed. Two were pronounced dead at the scene and another died at the hospital. The driver who ran the red light was also killed.
We have learned that two dogs in one of the vehicles were also killed in the crash.
The vehicle accident reality in California
We are no strangers to vehicle accidents in California. According to the state Office of Traffic Safety, there were hundreds of thousands of crashes during the latest reporting year in the state. Out of those, there were over 273,000 injuries and almost 4,000 total fatalities.
Why do these incidents occur?
As the story above shows, driver negligence is the main contributor to traffic injuries and fatalities. Running stop lights and stop signs lead to catastrophic incidents like the one we discussed. Other common causes of vehicle crashes include:
- Driving too fast for conditions
- Distracted driving (talking, texting, eating, etc.)
- Driving while impaired by alcohol or drugs
Regardless of how another driver causes harm, they should be held accountable if their gross negligence contributes to a crash.
We need to point out that it is not just other vehicle drivers and passengers affected due to negligent driving. Vulnerable roadway users like motorcyclists, bicyclists, and pedestrians are more likely to suffer from serious injuries than anyone else.
